Here's a recording of most of my first test flight. It shows that the hex is working okay and that I needed to learn how to land a bit softer, which turned out to be super easy once I got used to how much "heavier" it feels than my small quads - it is definitely a different experience. The video is nothing to get excited about aside from the fact that it recounts that first virgin experience of flying a big multicopter.
After checking out the NAZA's settings and understanding where all the buttons and switches are programmed on the transmitter, Charley, Jason, Alex and I went out to a remote recreational area to do some flying. Charley and Jason are very comfortable with their equipment (and they have first person perspective video on board) so they were able to fly out quite a distance and do some filming. I however, was flying the hex for the first time with only the experience of flying a small brushed motor quad (a LaTrax Alias, which is now for sale!), with no FPV, no idea of how long the battery will last or even if the thing will stay in the air at all. I did a couple of five minute plus test flights this time around, which proves that the hex is in good shape and ready to go. Next comes the tests for battery life and then flying further afield than just a few tens of yards.
